Following the cancellation of the 2011 T&F trip to Malta we are delighted to announce that the 2012 event will go ahead as planned and Northern Athletics will be taking a team to the Malta International Competition.
The date for the event has been confirmed as Saturday 14th April 2012.
We would normally leave Manchester Airport on the Thursday evening and return on the Sunday or Monday afternoon, this is dependent on flights.
On Day 1 of the Northern Indoor Championships at the EIS Sheffield four new CBPs were set. The most impressive of these was in the U20 women’s 400m where Kirsten McAslan (Sale H) took her third successive title in a new CBP of 54.35 – taking just over two seconds from Leigh Lennon’s previous CBP set in 2009.
Day 2 of the Northern Indoor Championships saw yet more CBPs bettered – four in all. The standout performance of the day came in the women’s 200m. Louise Bloor (Trafford) had already taken gold in the 60m on Day 1 and in the 200m stormed to victory in a new PB(i) and CPB of 24.05 to better the 24.17 of Vicki Barr in 2007 and take her second senior Northern 200m indoor title. Jethrow McGraw (Amber Valley) took victory in the U15B 800m by over 5 seconds crossing the line in 2.01.75 to better Josh Moody’s CBP of 2.03.36 that had stood since 2006.
This Saturday sees the third of the North of England marathon training weekends, designed to get people together who may sometimes be limited to solo weekend training sessions, in order to train for a common goal such as the Marathon. The sessions are now open to runners training for any goal from 5k to marathon and can be tweaked accordingly.
