We are all saddened to hear of the death of legendary coach Wilf Paish this morning (29.1.10).
Although he had been ill for several years he always seemed to pull through crises and return undaunted. The world of athletics will be a poorer place without him.
REPEAT performance by Steve Vernon in Northern Athletics' Cross-Country Championships at Blackburn, while Hatti Dean lifts the senior women's title again after three year interlude
The North Cross Country Team again headed to the wonderful hospitality
at Cardiff and the McCain UK Cross Challenge on 17th January 2010.
The Juniors were first off with impressive results from the closely
packed Becky Lambson (5th), Hannah Bateson (6th) and Rhea Ellis (8th)
with 30 seconds of each other
Thomas Farrell of Border Harriers & AC went second on the UK Under 20 all time list on 23 January 2010. Competing at the Razorback Invitational indoor event he finished second behind Festus Kigen in the 3000m. His time of 8:02:18 is less than a second outside Ian Stewart’s 42 year old record.
The World heptathlon champions Jessica Ennis (City of Sheffield) was again in impressive form on Day 2 of the Northern Championships at the EIS. Equally impressive in the final field event of the 2010 championships, the women’s high jump, was Vikki Hubbard (Birchfield H). Both Ennis and Hubbard equalled the CBP of Susan Jones set in 2001 with their clearances at 1.89m. Vikki Hubbard’s delight was clear for all to see as in equalling the CBP she set a new lifetime best – her previous best of 1.88m set in 2006
