UK CAU Cross Country Championships 2016

The Yorkshire Cross Country Team recently competed in the UK CAU Cross Country Championships on Saturday 12th March in Birmingham. All age groups performed superbly well, whether winning medals or not, on a rare sunny and warm day in the cross country calendar. The Under 20 Men, U13 Boys and Senior Women won team gold and the U13 Girls won team Silver with Tommy Dawson and Jodie Hill winning individual silver medals. After 9 events Yorkshire were lying in first place for the overall team award, but sadly our senior men’s team was incomplete, mainly due to injuries… However, the five senior men who did run, ran extremely well, I was very proud of them and the rest of the team, our Yorkshire athletes never fail to represent our county well. Many thanks to all athletes, coaches, and their families. Many thanks also go to Barbara Goodall, Gordon Agar, Stephen Thackray, Maria Harrison, Susanne Pickersgill, Janette Tomlins, Louise Slack, Charlotte Slack, Anthony Bowyer, Nicola Francis and Barbara Croughan, they were the Yorkshire Officials who helped take care of the athletes, they worked tirelessly all day and with great humour.

Other individual photos have been forwarded to me, and we will be using them in programmes etc., and we are planning to have a Yorkshire Website as soon as possible.

Yorkshire Track and Field Championships 2017

I’ve attached the prospectus and entry form for the Yorkshire Track and Field Championships for 2017. The Championships this year will include race walks, the race walks will begin at 9 am on the Saturday, with presentations taking place at 10 am on the same day.

Please ensure when circulating the prospectus that you circulate the whole thing, as there are important notes on there regarding rules of entry etc. ENGLAND ATHLETICS REGISTRATION NUMBERS must be included on the form; I cannot accept them otherwise.  Please do not send your entry by special delivery or recorded delivery, I don’t live anywhere near the main sorting office and I won’t have time to collect the mail if I’m not in. The regular mail always arrives.

Please don’t contact me regarding the receipt of individual entries, I really won’t have time to check, but I always post an entry list online and I can sort any problems out at that stage.

There is a charge for spectators at the track and field championships, it’s good value to watch the huge talent we always have participating at the Yorkshire Championships, athletes of all ages in all disciplines. Please be polite to our volunteers on the gate, without them and the rest of the volunteers working for nothing all weekend we really could never afford to put on a championship event. There are concessions and there’s a discounted rate for the weekend.

If you’re an official or volunteer and want to be involved and be part of the Yorkshire Championships please get in touch, you won’t regret it.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. My contact details are on the prospectus.

If you have previously earned a Yorkshire vest then you can wear it in any open competition, or any championships, such as the Yorkshire Track and Field Championships etc., basically wherever  it is listed in the rules you can wear a representative vest. You can also wear it for training. You can’t wear it when competing as a member of a club team event, like the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships, or league fixtures.

There is huge competition to earn a Yorkshire vest and they’re worn, quite rightly, with immense pride by all recipients. The only way you can earn a vest is to be selected to compete for Yorkshire in any UK CAU championships or the Northern Intercounty Championships. They’re the first representative vest on the road to going on to earn an England vest and a GB vest. Such is the high standard of our athletes many of our current Yorkshire athletes hold all three representative vests.

A Yorkshire vest should only ever be used by the athlete who has earned the right to wear it, if you are currently using a vest and you have never been chosen to represent Yorkshire then you should stop immediately.

Yorkshire vests are not available for sale on the open market nor will they ever be. I’ve been lucky enough to witness our athletes compete in the vest over the years and they have always worn them with pride and always have represented Yorkshire superbly.

Best wishes,
Fi Lancaster, Championship Secretary
