Northern Athletics Cross Country representative Team events. 2018/19
Northern Athletics will be sending teams, as outlined below, to the events shown. There is also some
information as to selection criteria that will be used for the event teams. As previously, the aim is to
select younger developing athletes, so they can gain valuable experience of International standard
races and competition As in the last 2 years we propose to use the Cross Challenge event on 24th
November at Sefton Park as the first selection event. This fixture is also the selection race for the GB
European XC Championships team.
We plan to send teams to the following events in 20198.
1) Great Stirling Cross Country Event – Saturday 12th January 2019
Teams of 6 male & 6 female athletes will compete in the Scottish Inter District Races.
As last year we plan to travel up on Friday evening either by bus from Leeds or by car/public
Accommodation will be provided on Friday and Saturday night in Stirling. Selection will be
based on results in the Sefton Park Cross Challenge event

Coast Mainline train from Leeds – departing at 07.00 on Saturday and returning to Leeds at

The season performances including County Champs results will be used to select the teams Home Countries International Saturday 24th March 2018 Wollaton Park Nottingham We plan to select teams of 4 for the junior and senior age category races. Given the closeness of the venue it is unlikely that we will be organising any hotel accommodation for all athletes. However if such is needed for individual athletes who are some distance away, we may do so. We may add an additional fixture at Caceres (in the Madrid region of Spain) on the 11th of Feb. This is dependent upon budget availability after we finalise the costs of the first two fixtures. Steve Gaines & Arwel Williams (NA Cross Country Reps) Rob Cameron (Lead Team Manager)
Cross Challenge Sefton Park, Liverpool 26th NovemberReport Antrim 14th Jan Report Home Countries International, Wales 25th March We plan to take 4 teams of 4 (Senior and junior male & female). Selection will be based upon this seasons performance – particularly the Northern Championships. Where we plan to offer places to the first 2 finishers in each category, who wish to compete here. *Please note we have raised concerns that this fixture is scheduled for the same date as the Area 12 / 6 stage relays. We hope that this date clash is resolved, which may mean achange of date for one of the fixtures If there are any athletes or coaches who wish to confirm athlete interest in being considered for selection for any of the above, please contact Steve Gaines, Arwel Williams or Rob Cameron. We are also looking to recruit and appoint some new team managers – both male & female, but particularly females.
